Description
Licoricia of Winchester was a remarkable thirteenth-century Jewish financier.
The statue, which was erected on Jewry Street in Winchester, was unvelied in February 2022. It was created by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. The project was funded by the Licoricia of Winchester Appeal, a Winchester-based charity whose goals are to further the education and promotion of Jewish history in Hampshire and England.

Licoricia is depicted in the clothes of a woman of wealth, and she is not wearing the identifying symbol many Jews were forced to wear, as the community in Winchester paid the church to avoid this. She is holding the hand of her son, Asher, who is holding a spinning top called a dreidel.
