Description
-
Portsmouth Historic Dockyards is one of the most popular attractions in the city.
-
It is the site of Lord Nelson’s flagship the HMS Victory (used in his victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805), as well as the HMS Warrior, and Henry VIII’s favourite ship the Mary Rose.
There were a number of voluntary Jewish sailors at the Battle of Trafalgar with Admiral Nelson: Joseph Manuel, Nathan Manuel, Henry Levi, and Benjamin Solomon all served aboard HMS Britannia in 1805.
