Description
-
Basingstoke was home to a small Jewish community in the early twentieth-century.
-
It was established in 1903, and held services in Flaxfield College, which was a private school for boys studying business. These services came to an end during the 1920s.
Harold Pollins, a member of the Jewish Historical Society of England, compiled a collection of references to the Basingstoke Jewish community in newspapers and government documents.
There is no longer an active synagogue in Basingstoke today, however Jewish residents of Basingstoke can connect to other communities through the Jewish Small Communities Network. More information about this network can be found at the JSCN website.
