Description
-
In 1885, ‘special sermons’ were preached in Fareham on behalf of the London Society for Promoting Christianity among the Jews.
-
The society, which operated under the patronage of the Archbishops and Bishops of England, sought to convert English Jews to Christianity.
These sermons were delivered by the Reverend J. H. Brübb at St Peter’s Church and Trinity Church, and a collection was taken at the end of the services to raise funds for the society. Similar missionary efforts can be traced elsewhere in Hampshire; see Above Bar Church for related activity in Southampton.
