- In 1848, The Hampshire Telegraph reported that the ‘Jews Society’ had held a meeting in the Abbey Chapel in Romsey.
- Attendance from the local Jewish community was described as “very numerous,” and the event attracted visitors from London, including the society’s secretary, Mr Youge, and a German Jew, Dr Huilhoff. A collection was also taken after the service.
