Description
-
In 1933, a Jewish couple - Morris Benjamin and Dorothy Cooper - were married in a 'temporary synagogue' at the now-demolished Savoy Café in Southsea.
-
The wedding ceremony, described in the Portsmouth Evening News as being of 'considerable interest to the Jewish fraternity in Portsmouth', was performed by Mendel Bloch and M. Schwartz. This happy occasion demonstrates the adaptability of Portsmouth’s Jewish community.
